Spence Strainers

Y Strainers, Basket Strainers, Temporary Strainers

Strainers are closed vessels with a cleanable screen element designed to remove and retain foreign particles from various flowing fluids. Utilizing strainers ultimately protects valves, regulators, and other products from damage, inefficiencies and energy wasting.

Spence offers three types of strainers: Y strainers, basket strainers, and temporary strainers.

Benefits & Features

Y Strainers take their name from their fabrication. With a low pressure drop streamlined design these strainers are most suitable for steam, gas, and liquid media. Y Strainers are designed to sustain pressures up to 3705 PSIG and temperatures as high as 800° F. Y strainers are manufactured from cast and ductile iron, bronze, carbon steel, chrome molly, and stainless steel. Y strainers have a compact end to end and can be mounted in a horizontal or vertical position.

Benefits & Features

Most commonly used for larger surface areas and liquid service, Basket Strainers remove dirt and debris from processing. Composed of materials such as cast iron, bronze, carbon, and stainless steel, these types of strainers allow for easy cleaning and maintenance. Stainless steel perforated baskets are the standard, upholding pressures to 740 PSIG and temperatures as high as 800° F. This type of strainer is always mounted in a horizontal position.

Spence Temporary Strainers

Benefits & Features

Temporary Strainers are designed for temporary or short period operations, extracting particles in a start-up process. During the initial inception of a new or restored process the Temporary Strainer will remove any coarse debris that was unavoidably retained within a system. Temporary strainers are available in three types: cones, baskets, and plates; they can provide up to 300% open area for maximum filtration. Temporary strainers can be used in both vertical and horizontal pipelines. They are constructed of stainless steel, with other materials available.
